Save a thumper. Ingo has done it.

Ingo has turned his faithful SR500 from 1980 inside out. Breathed new life into it. And achieved a top result.

A lightweight scrambler - ideal

SR stands for "Single Road". This was the concept from Japan when Yamaha wanted to bring the extremely successful 500cc single from the XT and TT onto the road and to new groups of buyers. The tactic worked. After almost 50 years, the whole world is still riding XT, TT and SR500. Who would have thought that back then?

Lightweight and equipped with plenty of torque, the SR is the ideal basis for conversions that convey the idea of the lightweight scrambler even more consistently.

Ingo has put a lot of thought into his project and has skillfully omitted, saved and refined. His SR is a dream come true.

No detail left untouched

If new, then new. The rims are anodized black. With new stainless steel spokes, the SR stands on completely fresh wheels. Visually and technically, this is first class, works and looks great. New shock absorbers from YSS are lighter and, above all, more adjustable. The latest technology for the classic concept.

You can see in the pictures what the re-galvanizing of the many small parts alone does to the overall appearance.

Very good pictures, we think - all taken by Ingo himself. So he can do that too, Ingo. Super. Hats off to him.

Take a look at this engine

The side covers are evidence of almost meticulous precision and attention to detail. They have been sanded and blasted, painted and polished. This is how it should look.

The 2J4 from 1978 to 1983 had a black-painted cylinder. This was not just for looks, it also improved heat dissipation. Today it is one of the quickly recognizable differences to the SR500 48T, which was sold from 1984.

A must and almost standard for every engine overhaul: double direct lubrication of the rocker arm axles. Ingo has opted for the model "Classic" decided. KEDO has plenty of Variants of double direct lubrication to choose from.

The oil is no longer simply pumped into the head, but is guided through the hollow-bored rocker arm shafts and rocker arms. This drastically reduces wear and extends the valve adjustment intervals

A sense of achievement with a clear pull on the sprocket

Of course, deep inside, Ingo's engine also lives up to its outward promise. Each of the many individual parts has been inspected, processed or even replaced. Performance comes from compression and good compression doesn't just happen by itself. With our parts and our experience in the workshop, anyone can get their hands on such a gem. Better than new - thanks to patiently hand-finished and matched components.

Also possible with patina, but can also look as perfect as Ingo's work.

The rear of the SR likes to be tackled

There is a lot of potential for weight reduction here. Jens vom Brauck comes into play.

Cologne-based designer Jens vom Brauck has been involved with the SR500 for decades. Ingo and Jens have known each other personally since their youth. Naturally, Ingo was inspired and paid tribute to his old buddy. Our GRP rear end "D-Track" was designed by Jens for KEDO years ago and is an integral part of the program. The rear frame had to be adapted for this. After consultation with the authorities, of course. Registered and stamped.

Clean and tidy and for eternity

Now Ingo's SR has a big quality advantage. It has been legally on the road since August 2024. Fit for another forty years. Many SR-riding KEDO customers still have a second motorcycle for the highway. That's when you really appreciate the quality of the lightweight single cylinder. True to the motto: "If you eat cake every day, you won't know when it's Sunday."

Ready-to-ride quality with ABE: Our dragpipe

The dragpipe 93601 fits perfectly into the concept, both visually and technically. Shorter and lighter than the original, absolutely legal and made of rust-proof stainless steel. The Elbow is made of stainless steel and, together with an unrestricted intake manifold, prevents unnecessary loss of power. With such lightweight machines as the SR, every additional horsepower provides noticeable propulsion.

Duplex: A simplex is only half as complex

A beautiful duplex drum brake from Grimeca brakes the front wheel. In 1988, Yamaha also introduced this brake on the SR500, based on the XS1 drum. The design later became even more nostalgic and adapted the look to that of the old English models. In Ingo's SR, another detail in the direction of minimalism and renunciation. Dispensing with brake fluid and its disadvantages.

Build your own single cylinder. For the winding country road in the hilly landscape of your choice. It's worth it.

That's how it works, people - Dare to save an XT500 or an SR500.

We were at the Scrambler Fever in Poland last weekend and it was really good again! 2 days of rattling through the woods with about 70 other enduro enthusiasts. Due to the extreme drought, many forest roads were a sandy hell. Everyone cursed about it, many crashed but everyone had a big grin on their face afterwards. More about this event soon....
