On the road with the T700 - reiwadatschi

Reiwadatschi

Behind Reiwadatschi is Benedikt from Munich - motorcycle enthusiast, mechanic and adventurer. The name, a mixture of his nickname „Reiwy“ and the Bavarian „Datschi“, stands for humor and love of his homeland.

Benedikt has now covered almost 80,000 kilometers on his Yamaha T700 - through countries such as Tunisia and Morocco, always on the lookout for new routes, conversions and stories.

Benedikt, you ride your Yamaha T700 a lot. What does this bike mean to you - and why did you choose the Tenere?
My first bike was a Yamaha MT-07, so it was more or less the same bike as now, just the road version. Back then, I wanted to travel more and needed space for more luggage and more comfort on the road. Off-road riding wasn't really that important to me at the beginning.
You have customized your T700. What changes did you make - and what was particularly important to you?
After 5 years and 90,000 kilometers, a lot has already been done to the Tenre, but it's not finished yet. The design is of course immediately noticeable. For example, I had the rims repainted and applied a robust laminate film with my own decor. The chassis has now been replaced, and small parts such as an adjustable windshield rail increase the comfort on tours enormously. A long list of all the conversions can be found on my website.
If you follow your tours, you immediately realize that you don't just ride, you really experience. What excites you most about traveling by motorcycle?
You are so independent of other influences, and by that I mainly mean traffic and road surfaces. No matter where you want to go, the bike takes you there, and no matter how many other drivers are blocking the roads with traffic jams, the bike is so agile and flexible that it's hard to stop. This combination is unique for me.
You're from Munich - what does the perfect tour in your region look like for you? Do you have any favorite routes or insider tips that you'd like to share?
While I used to ride a tour every weekend, this has now been reduced to a few targeted after-work laps. But the Sylvenstein reservoir and the toll road to the Eng are classics. A real highlight, especially in the fall. No traffic, winding roads and a beautiful landscape.
On Instagram, you take your followers with you on every stage. What do you want to convey with your posts - are you more interested in inspiration, technology or simply being on the road?
Above all, I want to be an inspiration to get active. For everyone who still needs a push to start their next adventure, but also for everyone who is only digitally involved. Because, for example, work, family or health don't allow you to do what you want to do.
Your photos and videos show attention to detail - from the bike to the landscape. How much planning goes into your shots, and how much is taken spontaneously on the road?
Most pictures and videos are taken spontaneously and the data archive is much larger than what ends up on the internet. However, the shots that require the most effort, such as filming myself with a tripod, always end up being my favorites. It's always worth the effort.

What should never be missing on your travels - and what have you perhaps learned along the way that you wouldn't do without today?

Of course, I always have to have a camera with me. I used to take a large SLR camera, but now it's a small compact camera or a drone. And when it comes to useful gadgets, I now always have a compressor with me, because the right air pressure makes for a lot of safety and driving fun off-road.

What's coming up next? Are there any tours or projects we can look forward to?

After my second visit to North Africa in 2025, I fell in love with this region. Ideally together with a handful of friends, because countries like Morocco are simply an off-road paradise. For 2026, I'm also planning to take part in more off-road events such as the Bosnia Rally.

How satisfied are you with the T700? What would you want to change and are there any parts that you are still missing?

After testing a few other bikes in 2025, I'm still very convinced on my T7. The only thing I would like is 4 liters more tank, because sometimes you don't have that little reserve when you ride offroad all day. And I find the 23 liters of the T7 World Raid too much...

Which countries have impressed you the most as a motorcyclist?

Currently, Morocco and also Bosnia. It's very spacious there for off-road riding and still easy to get to. I used to really want to go to the North Cape, but I've put that off for the distant future as long as I'm still riding studded tires.

Which motorcycle events should we go to next year?

Be sure to visit the successor to the MaxlRide in Ruhpolding (The Ride Moto Festival). This is where the ADV community meets in a great location, independent of big sponsorship flags. If you're there in 2026, the first drink is on me!

We were at the Scrambler Fever in Poland last weekend and it was really good again! 2 days of rattling through the woods with about 70 other enduro enthusiasts. Due to the extreme drought, many forest roads were a sandy hell. Everyone cursed about it, many crashed but everyone had a big grin on their face afterwards. More about this event soon....
