bringthekickback Trophy with Florian and his XT500

The Kickback Trophy is a trail ride for like-minded people with a hunger for dirt and an appetite for trails who want to test their machines and compete.

Hey Florian, we love your wanderlust pictures. How did you develop an affinity for old enduro bikes - what do you particularly like about them?

I think I soaked it up like a sponge as a child, as my father always rode adventure bikes and I was already enthusiastic about them as a small child. He often took me on the back of one, for example, and I still remember how we used to ride an old Transalp to the Elephant Meeting in the Bavarian Forest in the depths of winter. I remember exactly how I could no longer feel my legs and we had to stop on the way to buy warmer clothes. It's memories like that that stay with you and show that every adventure, no matter how small, is always worthwhile.

What have been your favorite trips with the old Yamahas so far?

We have a small house in Chiemgau, and that's where I have my best everyday adventures. Especially at the weekends, after a stressful week at the office, I grab my old camera and chase the XT500 along deserted mountain roads that no one has ridden on for ages. It's these little adventures that make everyday life special. But like many of us who have been bitten by the motorcycle adventure bug, I keep dreaming of faraway journeys. A few years ago we were in Morocco and I was totally blown away by the country and the amazing people we met.

Your photos have absolute wanderlust potential. How did you get into photography?
Is there a particular combination of vehicle and location that you would like to photograph?

Wow, thank you, that makes me so happy! Yes, sometimes I wish I'd grown up in the 70s. I'm obsessed with that vintage vibe and the iconic designs. That's why I can't stop thinking about those old enduro bikes. Riding my old Tenere 1VJ through the desert would be a real dream.

Kickback Trophy

The Kickback Company is a motorcycle fashion label that represents the vintage enduro and adventure culture. The brand combines the classic look with modern, functional performance. Just the way we like our bikes. Kickback is the fuel for adventure for gasoline enthusiasts.

Your participation in the "Kickback Trophy" sounds like a lot of fun in the dirt? We're curious, what did you experience there?

First of all, it's insane how much the community around the event and "bringthekickback" is growing. There are so many people who share the same passion and I just had to be there. Honestly, I was more than excited! Everyone I met that weekend was just like you and me. It was like a big class reunion where everyone was on the same wavelength - we had great conversations and unforgettable moments. And the trails we rode? They were really incredible!

What was the highlight of the event for you?

The aim was to navigate from checkpoint to checkpoint in a small group - and our group was simply amazing. As different as we were, we all had the same goal: to get there and have a lot of fun! After just a few minutes, the first one of us had to pull his bike out of the mud. Of course, the bike wouldn't start after that and when the kickstart failed after countless attempts, we had no choice but to push the thing - just a few minutes after the start, mind you! That's when I quickly realized that anyone who shoots through the terrain on such old machines definitely doesn't need a gym!

KEDO wants to keep the classic enduro bikes going and the spirit alive - do you see it the same way or do you prefer to look to the future?

Are you seriously asking that? I've already saved another couple old enduros in my eBay search! There are some killer machines out there! This event has definitely inspired me to stick with old bikes when it comes to adventuring.

Can you compare surfing and an XT500 off-road?

Honestly, whether surfing or motorcycling, it's always about enjoying the moment and seeking adventure. Every trail is different, just like every wave, and as for the surfboard carrier for the XT? I've already drawn it.
On your Insta, you are not only seen on enduro bikes, but also often on other motorcycles. What trip are you planning next?
Yes, I'm also a big fan of old Harley Davidson motorcycles and have built up a small "collection" over the years. Hey, everyone has their vice! At the moment I'm working on optimizing my XT500 with the aim of riding a few rallies next year and showing just how powerful these iconic bikes were back in the day!

Thank you very much, Florian.

We wish you an exciting journey, stay tuned and are looking forward to your surfboard carrier for the XT!

There will certainly be a lot to report.

We were at the Scrambler Fever in Poland last weekend and it was really good again! 2 days of rattling through the woods with about 70 other enduro enthusiasts. Due to the extreme drought, many forest roads were a sandy hell. Everyone cursed about it, many crashed but everyone had a big grin on their face afterwards. More about this event soon....
