An Africa rally especially and exclusively for XT500s. In the spirit of 1979, the year in which Yamaha manifested its image as the No. 1 enduro manufacturer with the victory of the XT500.
Paris Dakar legend and later Dakar Rally Director Hubert Auriol had the idea and organized the event, which then started in Paris in February 2006. Exactly 30 years after Yamaha launched the XT500 on the market.
Sadly, Hubert Auriol passed away last year. We would like to remember the great man of the Dakar Rally.
As KEDOs, we naturally felt committed to his idea and sent three riders, a neatly prepared XT and a Land Rover to Paris.
Tom, Lutz and Marco were supposed to rock the thing, which they did with flying colors.
24 teams were at the start to cover over 6000 kilometers in 15 days.
The KEDO team finished in 9th place - everyone was proud and happy. Even after 16 years, the pictures and memories still give me goosebumps and a permanent grin.
Doing is like wanting, only more blatant.
Great credit still goes to all the teams for this achievement.
