XT700 Meets XT500: The Ultimate Heritage Project from HolyMoly Motorcycles

A modern tribute to rally racing—built by the next generation.

A new Yamaha T700 conversion has emerged from Portugal; it was first unveiled in May ’26 in England at the Bike Shed.

The modified bike is a tribute to the XT500, which was introduced in 2026
has turned 50.
The original idea to offer the conversion as a kit has HolyMoly Co rejected. Instead, a limited number of conversions will be offered, which are to be installed starting this fall directly on-site in the future owners' garages.

What makes the XT700 special?

In 1976, Yamaha introduced the XT500—a motorcycle that would change the world of enduro riding forever. Simple, indestructible, minimalist. A motorcycle that crossed deserts, won the very first Paris-Dakar Rally, and became a cultural icon far beyond the world of motorsports.

Today, exactly 50 years later, this legend has found a worthy, modern successor.

For the crew of HolyMoly Motorcycles The verdict from Lisbon is clear: The Yamaha Ténéré 700 is the modern-day XT500! An honest motorcycle, built for real roads and dusty trails; for long-distance adventure and pure reliability, rather than for artificial showmanship.

With the XT700 Project ) HolyMoly brings the spirit, aesthetics, and carefree attitude of the 1979 XT500 to Yamaha's state-of-the-art CP2 platform.

Built to be driven—not to gather dust!

Wheels & Waves, Punk’s Peak

Builder Francisco himself proved that this announcement was meant absolutely seriously at the legendary Wheels and Waves Festival In Biarritz, France: At the dusty sprint classic Punk's Peak he raced the XT700 up the asphalt and secured a sensational 2nd place On the podium!

And he's not the only one who's fallen for the bike's rugged retro charm. None other than Pol Tarrès – one of the most spectacular and successful motocross and hard enduro riders of our time – took the opportunity in Biarritz to take the bike for an extensive test ride. His verdict? Pure enthusiasm for the agile handling and the masterful balance between modern CP2 performance and classic enduro feel.

"It's a tribute to the golden age of enduro racing—reimagined with 21st-century technology."

We were at the Scrambler Fever in Poland last weekend and it was really good again! 2 days of rattling through the woods with about 70 other enduro enthusiasts. Due to the extreme drought, many forest roads were a sandy hell. Everyone cursed about it, many crashed but everyone had a big grin on their face afterwards. More about this event soon....
